Titus ministry history:
- 1st missionary journey, Paul was present at Titus’ conversion (Titus 1:4). Titus went with Paul and Barnabas on Paul’s 2nd visit to Jerusalem. Acts 15 is also mentioned in Galatians 2:1-3.
- 3rd missionary journey, Titus is mentioned to be with Paul in Ephesus, was charged to deliver the Corinthian church his 1st letter to assess the condition of the church. Titus returned to Paul in Philippi (2 Corinthians 7:6-7; Acts 20:1-3). Titus willingly volunteers to go back to Corinth to deliver Paul’s 2nd letter and was given the stewardship of collecting the monies they vowed to give to the Jerusalem Church (2 Corinthians 8:16-17).
- 4th missionary journey, Paul left Titus as overseer of the Crete church to “...put what remained into order, and appoint elders in every town…” Titus 1:5. After finishing his work in Crete, Titus meet Paul at Nicopolis (Titus 3:12) From there Paul sent Titus to Delmatia, (Timothy 4:10).
Godly Men are faithful in preaching the Gospel. - 1 Corinthians 4:1-2 - “This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. 2 Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.” - Titus 1:1-3 - “Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the sake of the faith of God's elect and their knowledge of the truth, which accords with godliness, 2 in hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began 3 and at the proper time manifested in his word through the preaching with which the command of God our Savior has entrusted me;”
Godly Men faithfully fulfill their duty by completing the task assigned to them. - John 17:4 - “I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do.” - Titus 1:4-9 - “To Titus, my true child in a common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior. 5 This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained into order, and appoint (kathistemi: give or put in charge) elders in every town as I directed you— 6 if anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination. 7 For an overseer, as God's steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant (self-pleasing, self-willed) or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, 8 but hospitable (fil-ox-en-os: generous to guests), a lover of good, self-controlled (sober-minded), upright, holy, and disciplined (self-controlled). 9 He must hold firm to the trustworthy (faithful) word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction (exhort) in sound doctrine and also to rebuke (bring to light, expose) those who contradict it.”
Godly men faithfully contend for the Faith. - Jude 3 - “Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.” - Titus 1:10-16 - “For there are many who are insubordinate (disobedient, rebellious), empty talkers (babbler, talk nonsence) and deceivers (seducer), especially those of the circumcision party. 11 They must (it is necessary) be silenced (muzzle), since they are upsetting (overthrow, overturn, destroy, subvert) whole families by teaching for shameful gain what they ought not to teach. 12 One of the Cretans, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.” 13 This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke (expose) them sharply (harshly, severely, rigorously), that they may be sound (healthy) in the faith, 14 not devoting themselves to Jewish myths and the commands of people who turn away (rebel, desert) from the truth. 15 To the pure, all things are pure, but to the defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure; but both their minds and their consciences are defiled. 16 They profess to know God, but they deny (disown, repudiate) him by their works (deeds, actions). They are detestable (abominable), disobedient, unfit for any good work.”
