Biblical Manhood & Womanhood

Living By The Truth In The Days of Apostasy

2 Timothy 4

READ: 2 Timothy 4

God’s people must always be ready to proclaim the Gospel to anyone and everyone in all circumstances.  1 Peter 3:15 “but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,”

- 2 Timothy 4:1-2 - “I charge (earnestly call) you in the presence (by authority of) of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: 2 preach (kay-roo-so) the word;(logos) be ready in season (when the opportunity arises) and out of season; (when there are no opportunities) reprove, (reprehend severely, admonish) rebuke, (censure severely, assign fault) and exhort, (urge, admonish, warn, advise) with complete (all manner) patience (forbearance) and teaching.” {1 Timothy 1:13-14; 2:1-2; 3:13-17}

God’s people hold to sound doctrine and stand solidly on the Rock of truth.

Ephesians 4:13-14  “until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.”

- 2 Timothy 4:3-4 - “For the time is coming when people will not endure (bear or tolerate) sound teaching, (inerrant truth, doctrine) but having itching ears they will accumulate (heap up, accumulate in piles) for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,(desire the forbidden, lust)  4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off (go astray) into myths.”(fiction, fables, imaginations)

God’s people work with all diligence not to be found idle when our Lord returns eagerly watching and serving on the great day.

Luke 12:43 “Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes.”

- 2 Timothy 3:5-8 - “As for you, always (en pas: in all, with all) be sober-minded, (circumspect, clear-headed) endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill (bring to bear, make full) your ministry. 6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. 7 I have fought (struggle with difficulty and danger) the good fight, (praiseworthy contest) I have finished (come to a close) the race, (course of life) I have kept the faith. 8 Henceforth (future) there is laid up (reserved) for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, (verse 1, revelation 20:13) and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.”

(revelation 20:13 - “And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done.”)

God will rescue His people and bring us safely home.

Colossians 1:13-14 “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

- 2 Timothy 4:9-21 - “Do your best to come to me soon. 10 For Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia. 11 Luke alone is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is very useful to me for ministry. 12 Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus. 13 When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, also the books, and above all the parchments. 14 Alexander the coppersmith did me great harm; the Lord will repay him according to his deeds. 15 Beware of him yourself, for he strongly opposed our message. 16 At my first defense no one came to stand by me, but all deserted me. May it not be charged against them! 17 But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion's mouth. 18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

19 Greet Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus. 20 Erastus remained at Corinth, and I left Trophimus, who was ill, at Miletus. 21 Do your best to come before winter. Eubulus sends greetings to you, as do Pudens and Linus and Claudia and all the brothers.”
